TELEHEALTH
Telemedicine
Teletherapy (via phone, video, or other electronic means) allows care from a distance. Here’s what to know:
Voluntary: You can stop teletherapy at any time without impacting your care.
Privacy: Standard confidentiality applies.
Records: You can request session records (fees may apply).
Consent: No info will be shared without your written consent.
Benefits: Easier access, reduced travel, improved continuity of care.
Limitations: Harder to observe body language, appearance, or other cues. Important info may be missed if not verbalized.
Video Sessions
I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform for therapy sessions.
You’ll need a webcam, mic, and private internet (avoid public Wi-Fi).
Location & Licensing
I can only see clients in states where I’m licensed (DC, MD, VA) or authorized (e.g., PsyPact states).
If you travel, sessions may need to be rescheduled.
Emergencies
You must complete a Teletherapy Emergency Plan so I can reach supports if needed in the event of a crisis.
We’ll discuss risks and when in-person care might be more appropriate.
Technology Issues
Disruptions may happen (e.g., dropped calls, poor connection).
If video fails, I’ll call the number you provided.
Data breaches are rare but possible.
Other Notes
Sessions are not recorded unless both parties give written consent.
Check with your insurer about teletherapy coverage.
